Bonsai Heresy…(tantalizingly close)…

As I’m writing this a ship is docking with cartons of Bonsai Heresy: 56 Myths Exposed Using Science and Tradition. The frugal and impatient among you who pre-ordered a copy (some of you ordered several) now have just a little less time to wait.

Having received an advance copy last month, I signed it to myself. I wasn’t sure if the book or myself should be scolded for taking up so much of my time last year, but it was great fun to write, and it does look smashing with the hilarious illustrations of animator Sergio Cuan (who works for Nickelodeon).

The traditional beer upon completion of a book is likely common to all but wine drinkers. It is a stout little book—360 pages of weightiness.

One of my favorite Sergio illustrations. I won’t tell you what chapter it illustrates, though, that’s just giving EVERYTHING away…

Apparently you did not practice social distancing from yourself when you signed your book to yourself…

I’m reading and loving the book. I just started Part 2, where you said you were at Cornell in the late 70’s. Now, on May 8th, 1977, in Barton Hall, Cornell, a historic concert was performed. I know you were young – around 10 – but I wondered if any family members might have attended? Just curious.

Love the new book!!! Re-reading it this week to see what I missed the first time around. I really enjoy your writing style as it reads more like something one would ‘want’ to read and not an instruction manual telling me to measure twice and cut once or else…. I also really enjoy the quality of the book’s construction/build. The book is something I can put on the bookshelf next to some of my favorite reads and it actually looks like it belongs there. The illustrations and colors are such a classy touch that seem to add to the ‘wow’ factor and now I feel like I need to sign up for an intensive if work ever allows. I really hope you’ll continue to tease and or expand on your writings on the blog. Thanks!!!

Hi Lance, thanks for the kind words and glad you’re enjoying Heresy! It was a great team and their quality as independent contractors really shone. Yes, I will begin posting on topics teased out of Heresy, shortly now. Cheers-

As well as all these other great comments I agree with all, this book actually had a 100% great proofreader. NOTHING misspelled!

    • crataegus says:

Thanks! We worked hard at that…
Actually with two librarians in the family if it hadn’t been triple checked I might have been disowned.

Just got your book and am reading! I love, love, love it !!!!!!!!! This is just wonderful. I plan to share with all of my club members and encourage them to get a copy and read every last word. You’ve provided a great service to the bonsai community.

Hi John, delighted to hear you won’t be burning it for warmth; enjoy, and if you have a moment, report when you finish! I’m curious what someone of your background might comment on-

Wow. Great. A bonsai book without photos of bonsais. Every chapter makes me visualize my own trees and the certain situation i have been into. Nice experience. I was mastering the catching of flies, after reading your book i will stop.hahaha
