Bonsai Fundamentals Course—Now Available for Viewing-
My year long project with Oscar Jonker of Bonsai Empire is finally (whew!) available. This was really a lot of fun to do. Last summer we went to Japan to film at my teacher’s garden, so there are some really eye-bugging trees in it, and then I also spent months crafting the three hours of lessons it contains.

Dear Michael; two days ago I pre-enrolled for the 50% discount on your upcoming course but never got any kind of a confirmation. Is there a place where I can check and see if in fact my email was registered. I look forward to what promises to be a very interesting course. I’m looking forward to this Fundamentals Course. I hope it is HTML5 and not Flash. I use an iPad…Flash does not work with the new iOS. Maybe Oscar Jonker can confirm the method. Now…about Pre Enroll. I did that and received an email confirmation. I travel some in March. Do I have a window of time in which to view the lecture and to make my course purchase? If so, generally how long is that window (where my discount applies)? I really need that method, HTML5 or Flash, answer too….makes a difference…all my viewing is iPad.

I should add to my comment above after checking my email. I did Pre-Enroll…..and I believe it was on time. However, I did not actually receive a confirmation email. That comes later? I guess at the moment….I don’t know whether my Pre-Enroll was received or not. Maybe I’ll know on March 11.

I enrolled in your excellent Fundamentals Course. I noticed that every tree had several, almost excessive amount of fertilizer cakes. Can you please comment on that. Thanks
Sure- the film was made in the summer period after most growth had stopped. Fertilizing developed bonsai this hard in the spring would have brought youthful growth. Look at the ramification and numbers of buds and leaves and needles that need fertilizer—most of us under fertilizer our developed bonsai, or we do it at the wrong time.
If it had been filmed before mid-May, only Black pines and Chojubai would have had fertilizer.
Also, the volcanic mix of akadama and pumice that Suzuki uses does not hold onto excess fertilizer, so spring growth can be easily minimized by withholding. This soil offers a pinpointed control of growth…but obviously more work and attention to detail, too!
Just finished the course and printed my certificate. Loved it! But then I could listen to you for hours on the subject.
