Summer is an interesting time in the bonsai calendar. Whether you have much to do or not depends on what you have in your yard. If you only have black pine that you’ve decandled, you can almost hire someone to water and take a two month break. If you’ve only got spruce, it’s almost the same. If you’ve deciduous and juniper, though, there is always something to do…

Summer can be catch up time, too. It’s a great time to clean up deadwood and live veins on juniper. These photos are of my apprentice, Bobby, doing just that on a Rocky Mountain Juniper this week. Next week we’re going to be styling a big juniper, and I’ll post a few photos of that adventure soon…
