Interview with Shinji Suzuki’s Son–
My friend Oscar Jonker of Bonsai Empire recently interviewed Hiroaki Suzuki, my teacher’s son. He apprenticed under Kimura, and still has been spending a bit of time back at Kimura’s place helping out, and the rest of his time at his father’s place. I enjoyed spending some time with him at Suzuki’s garden when I was there over the summer. It’s fun to watch this quiet young man talk about his apprenticeship and what he hopes to achieve demonstrating in Europe next month, which will be his first professional presentation. This is a very talented young man!

He looks and sounds like a sweet and gentle young man. Training with Kimura San and his own father, Suzuki San, I am sure he will become one of the best and bring a mix of traditional and modern ideas to the world of bonsai. I hope he comes to the U.S. in the near future.

Where is Suzuki San’s Bonsai Nursery? Can it be visited by the public?
His bonsai nursery is in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture. And yes it is open to the public.

I am really eager to see Hiroaki work in the next 15-30 years, I cannot imagine the amount of knowledge he has accumulated being an apprentice to Master Kimura and the son of Shinji.
I am very eager to see more Hiroaki work over the next few decades. I can only imagine the knowledge he has accumulated when his teacher is Mr Kimura and his father is Shinji. Looking at Kimura apprentices they have already won some major awards…I’m sure Hiroaki will be the next big thing in Japan. I loved your book, Michael, btw.
