Beautiful Henk Fresen Bronzes for Bonsai Display
Bobby Curttright brought by the studio a recent shipment of Henk Fresen’s wonderful bronze miniatures, and we enjoyed dreaming up what we might display with them. These are exemplary works for innovative bonsai display, such as you might see at the Taikan Ten, and of comparable quality to the bronzes that Matt Reel and I used when setting up displays in Shinji Suzuki’s tokonoma when we were apprentices there.
I was particularly taken with the reclining elk and the tree frog, although all these pieces have a subtle charm that comes from masterful hands. The toad, heron, and scorpion are exquisite as well (never thought I’d say a scorpion was exquisite, but it just happened.) Here are a few photos of them:

Amazing work from Henk!!!!! What an artist. If you don’t mind me asking, how are those priced?
Several hundred dollars each. They do vary, though.
A friend of mine has a piece done by Henk of a dragonfly. The work and details are exquisite. They are great to see in person.
Pretty cool. Does it come in chojubai?…
Good grief, what have we started… : )
j’ai plusieurs de ces miniatures, c’est un enchantement, à la maison je les expose avec mes suiseki dans le tokonoma du séjour ou les étagères de mon bureau
bravo, bravo, bravo
Thank you for the comment, Google Translate I hope came close:
‘I have many of these miniatures, it’s a delight, at home I expose them with my suiseki in the tokonoma of the living room or the shelves of my office’
