Mike! I like the change, but please tell us or show us how big the live cambium is on the trunk to support a healthy growing tree. This may be compared to the magician exposing his illusion, but hobbiests like me have a lack of experience to balance the dead looking trunk with a healthy plant.

There is a sizable live vein on the right side of the tree, although the bark has not been stripped so it is hard to see. Also, much of that vein is on the back of the tree. A little bit should be seen from the front, as a general ‘rule’ for fronts on junipers. Otherwise it looks like a dead trunk supporting a live tree. It would be more obvious if we stripped the bark…maybe we should!
