Bay Island Bonsai 2009; Bonsai Tonight

Bravo Boon! This past weekend Boon Manakitivipart and associates set up their marvelous 10th year anniversary show. The depth, diversity and high quality of this show is a tribute to one of our finest teachers. Among it’s many attractions, this show boasts what I think are a good chunk, in terms of quality and quantity, of the best black pines in America. Also notable are excellent Western juniper—and something little noted in such shows of stunning trees—very old, beautiful, and appropriate companion plants. Keep an ear to the ground for the show book that is being planned. It will be worth having on your bookshelf.

Also, for the best blog name in bonsai, we take off our hats to Jonas Dupuich’s new ‘Bonsai Tonight’ blog. Jonas and I go a long way back; we were Boon’s only two students in his very first Intensive 8 years ago. He has a lot of experience and bonsai savvy. We never thought he would carry out his threat of creating a website with this wry domain, but here it is, and it’s worth seeing—
