I’ve been waiting for a year to make this post! It was over a year ago that Ryan Neil and I started to toss ideas around for a new bonsai exhibition in our home town of Portland, Oregon, and we’re finally ready to announce it. The Artisans Cup of Portland Bonsai Exhibition will be a showcase of bonsai ranging from traditional to innovative. The exhibition will be in the Portland Art Museum from October 4-6, 2013. Please join us for our ‘feast of bonsai’ in 2013! If you bring bonsai, we will bring a few hefty prizes ($10,000 first prize), a memorable display, and of course wine- (this is the Willamette Valley, after all…)
I’ll keep this introduction short and sweet, but the curious should definitely check out our website and blog below- (I’m now writing two blogs).

Congratulations Michael. A mutual friend told us about this exciting event on the qt. a few weeks ago. So thrilled to know the PNW will soon be know as a center for bonsai excellance. Kampai!
Thank you for your kind comments. Hope you’ll consider joining us next year for the festivities!
Really cool idea. That is a very serious first prize!
Thanks, and yes, it is a serious first prize and the second and third are no sneezers either. We hope it will entice the best efforts out of everyone, because we really wish to see the best we can do. And broadcast that quality around the country and around the world.
That does it ! The bar has been significantly raised. I’d move there in a Texas minute if I could manage it.
Now what exactly is a Texas minute? I’ve heard of a New York minute… was raised up there… but I would guess the Texas minute would involve a mosey of some sort, a rolling, easy gait to getting there?
Dang, ya got me there podnah. Just a term I’ve thrown around for years. I guess I could have said “in a jiffy” but it lacks a certain gravitas.
Will you need volunteers to help?
We will certainly welcome help, and will gladly take names for that. Let us know what your skill sets are and we’ll go from there!
This is incredible news! When it says “anyone” can submit a tree, does that mean Canadians too? Please say yes – we promise to behave ourselves!
Yes, Canadians are certainly welcome to enter trees— Good behavior optional. Trees must be nice, however.
